Amanda was asked by Copperfield’s Books to read at the inaugural Sebastopol Lit & Art Crawl coordinated by Vicki DeArmon at All Things Book. She joined local authors Elizabeth Stark, Julia Park Tracy, Becca Lawton, Claire Hennessy, Iliani Matisse, Carol Miller and Angie Powers. Free and open to the public.

Moderator

Amanda led a conversation with choreographer Nancy Lyons, music director Lynne D. Morrow and sculptor Bruce Johnson about the world premier of their collaborative performance “Into the Heartwood,” a dance + music + sculpture work inspired by and presented around Mr. Johnson’s old-growth-redwood sculptures at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts. Sponsored by Soco Dance Theater. The event was free and suitable for families and friends of all ages.

Keynote Speaker

Amanda was honored to be the keynote speaker at the 40th anniversary of Hospice Services of St. Joseph Health and its Hospice Heritage Circle. She spoke about the “wild creativity” involved in end-of-life care, sharing stories and insights. Amanda’s novel “Going to Solace” celebrates the under-sung genius of professional and familial caretakers at a hospice in a small North Carolina town. The cause and honorees at this luncheon could not have been more worthy. Coordinated by Hospice of Petaluma

Opera Director

Amanda staged Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” for the Department of Opera and Music Theater at Sonoma State University with music director Lynne D. Morrow. The full production included professional and student singer-actors, a live orchestra, unique puppets designed by Mary Nagler, as well as costumes, set, lighting, and special f/x created for the Broadway-style Person theater on the SSU campus.

Emcee

San Francisco Bay Area’s Lit Camp asked Amanda to emcee “Seriously Funny,” an evening of readings at the Basement in San Francisco featuring the host of KQED’s Forum Michael Krasny, author of “Let There Be Laughter.” All proceeds went to support scholarships for Dave Eggers’ ScholarMatch and Lit Camp. Open to the public.

Amanda was asked by Lit Camp, a Bay Area hub of literary excellence, to represent at LitQuake’s wild-and-crazy LitCrawl in San Francisco. She was a featured reader with a new short story inspired by the theme “venom” (greatness!). Hosted by Four Barrel Coffee.

Talent Show Surprise: Storytelling

Amanda found the gumption to deliver one of her live-told, no-notes, true stories to the luminaries of Lit Camp during their last-hurrah talent show. Somehow her memory did not fail her and she let everyone in on a family secret, “The Fellowship of the Crown.”

What a terrific honor, and what fun! Area poet, Michelle Wing, asked Amanda to speak to her class at the Bergin University for Canine Studies (a school that trains the trainers of working dogs). Amanda read excerpts from her novel “Going to Solace” featuring dogs both living and in the form of ghosts. Open to class members.

Featured Speaker: Storytellers Conference

Storytellers Conference & Expo in Santa Rosa, CA. Amanda led two workshops: “Who’s Writing the Story? Partnering with  Readers/Audiences” and “What Storytellers Can Learn from Directors; Layer Your Scenes, Nail Your Story.”

Amanda McTigue is a very exciting and engaging speaker. At our recent Northern California Writers’ StoryTellers Expo, Amanda shared important knowledge about the craft of writing from a director’s perspective with the attendees. She gave an incredibly insightful and helpful presentation that had attendees raving about her.  She unanimously received two thumbs up from both the attendees and the staff as being the best speaker at our event. We will definitely be asking Amanda to return next year, as she couldn’t have been a nicer, or more informative speaker.

For the second year in a row, Amanda won Best Storyteller of 2014 at West Side Stories Petaluma. West Side Stories is a monthly live storytelling event–five-minute, true stories told with no notes–modeled on “The Moth” in New York City.

Champion Storyteller

Amanda won Best Storyteller of 2013 at West Side Stories Petaluma. West Side Stories is a monthly live storytelling event modeled on “The Moth” in New York City. Participants compete by telling five-minute true stories without notes. Amanda became a regular in 2013. Her stories ranged from Blue Ridge Mountain tales to annals of the young and foolish in New York City. She’s honored to be a part of the diverse, moving and utterly “real” community of storytellers in her hometown.
